As Houston’s only brewpub awaits its full brewing system (late May!), The League is busy brewing in 10 gal batches as much as we can to be open for “Pop-up Brewpubs,” a series of events highlighting each of the inaugural member brewers.

What is a pop-up brewpub, you ask? Well, its just like a brewpub, but it is open only for a day or two at a time and then it is gone forever! More than just a special event, our pop-ups are actually real brewpubs created for a limited time only. A special food menu is created to pair with the featured beers all brewed in house and you can come in and enjoy a pint or two along with a meal just like at a full brewpub. Why pop-ups only? Our little brewing equipment right now would not work for full time operations. We are also still building out our tap room and our full menu, set to open this June as The League Tavern.

The first in our series of pop-up brewpubs will be brought on by High Fidelity Brewing this Saturday, April 13 opening at 8 pm. Unlike future pop-ups, this is a ticketed event (just $25 at hifibrew.bpt.me) all inclusive of a HiFi pint glass, six HiFi brews, delicious noms and an awesome evening. HiFi focuses on classic old world ales hopped up with a distinctly American flair. Their HopScotch Ale when paired with select cigars, wowed the crowd at last Fall’s Craft Beer Quest. Food pairings include hand crafted pretzel bites, chicken & waffles, pulled pork tacos, bbq sliders and stout cupcakes made with HiFi’s own Coconut Milk Stout (yes, the ones that rocked everyone’s world at UnValentine’s). Stay tuned to the HiFi Facebook and Twitter (@HiFiBrew) for special treats!

Tap List:

Ginger Kid (Ginger/citrus, Belgian wheat)

Imperial Belgian Black IPA

Hop Scotch (aggressively-hopped pale Scotch ale)

London ESB

Conspirator (Doppelbock)

Gose (Collaboration with Spiller Artisan Ales)

Next up, April 27, Warlocks Games and Beer will pop up with a selection of their brews paired with pub fare (yes, beer cheese!) and of course, gaming! Retro video games, board games and the debut of the new game, Injustice will transform our tap room into the Warlocks gaming brewpub for one night only.

Then on Sunday, May 5, join us for our first annual Drinko de Mayo: Fiesta de Cerveza Artesanal, complete with a beer pinata named Chuy and BrewRitas!
We’ll be open at 11 am for brunch, lunch and dinner of authentic Mexican regional cuisine from awesome Chef Joel Benavidez of Adela’s Mexican Kitchen paired with craft brews all brewed IN HOUSE from La Liga de los Hombres Extraordinarios. A special menu of authentic regional Mexican cuisine from Adela’s will feature fresh guacamole, pico de gallo, cochinita pibil (Mexican spiced pulled pork slow roasted in a banana leaf) tacos, vegetarian enchiladas with hand crafted mole and creamy, perfect flan drowning in beer caramel. All paired with special featured beers from Houston’s only brewpub!
World’s best flan drowning in beer caramel! BEER Pinata! (with beer candy, coozies and such)! Horchata Stout Milk Shakes! Special Cafe de Olla Porter from Spiller Artisan Ales!

Come celebrate the day the Mexicans kicked some French ass in style with great craft beer and Mexican food.

On Saturday, May 18, Spiller Artisan Ales pops up for an evening of Belgian and farmhouse-inspired brews such as Belgian Brown, Mosaic Belgian Pale, Saison Blond and fan favorite, “Young Sun” Lemongrass Saison. Local cheese guru, Kellie Prinzel of Wholefoods will be on site to pair select specialty cheeses with each brew and we’ll have freshly baked hand crafted baguettes. The “Belgian Farmhouse Picnic” menu will feature our Tarte Flambé and other inspired treats so save the date!

Stay tuned for more pop-ups from our brewers, special tasting events and the announcement of our Grand Opening Party!

IMPORTANT UPDATE

We upgraded our brewing system to a larger size mid-production due to pending changes in the regulatory environment that may allow us to distribute. This has delayed our opening as we await our system but we are trying to brew as much as possible in small batches and be open for you as much as we can throughout April and May.

Kickstarter Backers! Glasses and shirts (very sorry for the delay) arrive April 25 and will be shipped out that week or you can pick them up at the upcoming events. If you have a dinner or party, please let us know whenever you’d like it scheduled and we are ready to serve you! Just email info@breweryincubator.com. Until then, we’ll be very busy brewing for you, building out the tap system, tap room, menu and somehow keep trying to pay the rent on this place. Keep your fingers crossed for us as we go to the Historic Commission with our proposal for outside seating to take advantage of what is arguably the best view in Houston.

Valentine’s Day is about two things: love and commitment. We will be celebrating the opposite of those two things for our UnValentine’s Day with a feast of indifference that forces you to not commit to anything or anyone except a love of craft beer.

Here’s how it works: Tables for four will be set up for you to spend up to 30 minutes drinking great beer and enjoying delicious beer pairing (and often beer infused) bites with a set beer theme with great company. After 30 minutes, you will be forced to move to another table with four different people, a totally different style of beer and a completely different style of food.

Don’t like the people at your table? Who cares. You are indifferent and do not have to commit to them. Don’t like sours or Thai food? Who cares! You are indifferent and in 30 minutes you might be enjoying Belgian food and brews.
Things to note:
This is *not* about dating, for singles, or in any way geared towards finding a hook-up. We love how beer brings people together and by all means, take someone home and enjoy. But that is not what this is about. We encourage couples to come and celebrate this day in a different way! No roses. No bullshit. What is a better way to celebrate love than having fun with good friends and good beer?

Yes, the food and the beer will be awesome. Yes, there will be League of Extraordinary Brewers’ beer for you to try and awesome rare beers. No, you will not get to know the menu in advance. Each theme is a secret! Yes, you will need a reservation. We can’t organize this without knowing how many people are coming, so make sure you get your ticket at because sales will stop on the morning of February 14 at 11 am sharp!

One more very important thing to note: If you bring a bottle to share with the table of your choice, we will give you a special UnValentine comparable in awesomeness to the beer that you have brought. So show us your beer at the door when you check-in for your UnValentine! UnValentine’s will be cool little presents with an “I Love Brew” Platypus and Pterodactyl card for you to give to that special someone, or keep for yourself, because screw them.

This is going to be way too much fun. We hope to see you there!

Please also join Happier Desserts for a special fundraising Bake Sale that brings you Craft Beer Valentine’s!

The World’s First Brewery Incubator is Officially a Reality Thanks to YOU!

Words cannot describe how grateful we are for all your support, or the amazing feeling of watching the Pledges come through the last few days of the Campaign. We were nearly glued to our phones checking the page, hugging and dancing with delight as the numbers climbed.

Everyone who helped spread the word played in invaluable role in our Campaign and we want to thank you. Local media really came through and helped us get the word out in the Houston Press, Eater, MyTable and Bauer Business Focus (on NPR). The next morning we awoke to find out we were featured in FastCo and although the Campaign was over, it was a great feature and such a fantastic opportunity to spread the word about our Project. Blogs like The Beer Page, Craft Beer Coach and Bitch Beer stepped up when we were a few thousand dollars short to call backers to the cause and it made a critical difference. On top of that, we had some incredible Twitter supporters that pushed hard for us and we are eternally grateful!

We’d like to share a few cool facts about our Kickstarter Campaign with you:

209 out of our 295 Backers were first time Backers on Kickstarter! This means a lot fo us because we really believe in the Kickstarter model and happy to have introduced new people to this amazing platform. Many have already gone on to Back other projects! As many of our Backers are from Texas and particularly the Houston area, we hope that our Project will break ground to get more local launches on Kickstarter. It also means a lot because we were able to bring in the support on our own rather than as a Kickstarter feature. It is simply a great feeling!

I spent approximately one week in front of the computer researching beer bloggers, journalists and twitter personalities. I sent out 58 cold emails to them, for which I received six responses and it was completely worth it! The responses we did receive were incredibly supportive.

Out of our 295 Backers, only 48 (16%!) were people that we had actually met before we launched the Campaign. Everyone else gave us their support without even meeting us! Even better, many people actually increased their Pledge after attending one of our Backer Events, meeting us and learning more about the concept. We’ve met some great friends along the way. Who knew Kickstarter would be such a great way to make new friends? Only in Craft Beer!

Thank you, Darla Guillen, for the great photo! Sorry for hiding you, Kevin.

During the Race to the Finish Party, everything happened so fast and we were so busy that the reality of it all did not set in until it had all ended. A few of the hard-core folks stuck around and we were all sitting outside smoking a cigar with the last of the Abyss vertical when the Kickstarter ended and we actually looked at it and realized – WOW! We are 144% funded! (Click on the Photo to the left to view a great album from the night).

The funding has allowed us to get moving on everything right away. As soon as the funds started coming through we begin cutting checks for permits and equipment. We should have a pretty exciting update for you on Monday or so when the check goes through (fingers crossed) on our opening date but for now it is looking like May will be the official date as our equipment will take some time to go into production. Permitting is moving along and we might open as a craft beer bar a bit sooner if our equipment takes longer than licesning and build-out.

Another thing we did was sell off the start-up equipment we were brewing on in order to finish funding the new set-up. It was a strange feeling to see the SABCO, a few of the small fermentors (we’re keeping a couple for experiments) and the taps go out the door last week; so many good brew days and many great beers served, so many brew sessions fighting with things not working. They will be missed. Even stranger will be shipping out our Synesso espresso machine this Monday. We found a great home for her and have decided that the funds (and time she takes to operate) would be better spent focusing on beer. That will truly be the end of an era and we plan on blogging about it on the cafeluzhouston.com page to say goodbye.

Ordering the equipment and moving forward with permitting is incredibly exciting! We also want to make sure we move on Kickstarter Rewards right away too so that is the next priority. We sent out a survey to all our Backers for the information we need and will be posting some proposed shirt designs for your feedback next week. We’ll also be offering up some of the Reward items on an online store here so you’ll still have a chance to grab a growler or Art Print. The Backer shirts are for Official Backers only though. We promise that they are just for you!

More soon on equipment, Rewards, licensing progress (with some tips for aspiring brewery owners) and are super exciting, mind-blowing UnValentine’s Day to come soon!

We’ve had a few questions regarding the Kickstarter funding model, why we chose it, how it works and ways people can show support beyond a Pledge. We’d like to address those here. This is all incredibly important so read carefully and not after too many beers. Well, session beers would be okay.

Why Kickstarter?

Yes, we could have raised the funds we needed to appealing to friends and family and independently offering similar rewards. You’ve made it all very clear we can count on your suport and we’re incredibly grateful for that. We decided to use a crowdfunding platform because it is an amazing vehicle for introducing a new idea to a broader audience. This idea is an important one. This idea needs to be shared with people all over the world – to excite, inspire and call them to action – because that will lead to incubator breweries all over the world. This will do much more to change the world of craft brewing than we can single handedly do here with our small brewpub in Texas. We want to emphasize that everyone who supports us on Kickstarter is playing a pivotal role not only in building our brewpub, but in creating the model that will go on to have a global impact.

There are also many other crowdfunding platforms such as IndieGoGo that provide fantastic venues for vast outreach as we described above. Kickstarter differentiates itself in a number of ways. The most important one is that Kickstarter is an “all or nothing” funding model. This means that if we do not reach our goal by the deadline, we lose all of the money that has been pledged. This model creates a level of accountability on Kickstarter that is not present on other crowdfunding sites. Projects on Kickstarter are taken seriously and actively managed. While it may seem easy to run a crowdfunding campaign and simply take what you can get, what good is $5,000 when the equipment you need costs $20,000? A Kickstarter Campaign sets a firm deadline. When the Campaign is finished, the funding for the project is secure and we know we can move forward. In our case, as soon as the clock ticks midnight on January 25, we know that we can order our equipment and begin full build-out. We have an exact deadline and thought it may be a race to the finish, we wouldn’t be in business if we didn’t enjoy pushing ourselves.

Yes, All or Nothing

This brings us to another point. While many are familiar with Kickstarter, we recently noticed that 46 of our Backers have never backed another project on Kickstarter and many others have backed only one or two. You may not know that if we do not reach our goal of $25,000 by January 25 we will not receive any of the funding that we worked so hard to achieve. Cards will not be charged. The Pledges simply just fade away.

Support Beyond the Pledge

If you have Pledged and want to further help us reach this goal, there is much you can do to help out that will take very little of your time. Simply by sharing links on your Facebook Page, Twitter and with email contacts, you are helping to spread the word about this project. The Brewery Incubator is an exciting idea that would interest anyone, regardless of whether or not they have a penchant for craft beer. Our society is currently going through an amazing cultural revolution in what is being referred to as “the shared economy.” Co-working spaces, incubators and crowdfunding are all part of this revolution. Share this idea with your friends as a relevant news item and an idea that you believe in, not as a pitch asking for money. We appreciate those of you who are hard selling this on social media. Yes, we need to sell this on Kickstarter, but more than that, we just want it to be shared!

Sharing the link to our Kickstarter, http://kickstarter.breweryincubator.com, also helps our Project gain momentum. Kickstarter has an algorithm that showcases popular projects and their staff also look at projects that are seeing a great deal of attention for staff picks and newsletter highlights. Every new click on our page helps us get one step closer to being featured. Currently, 71% of our funding has come through external references. We can only imagine what would happen if we were featured on Kickstarter so that fans perusing Kickstarter could easily find our Project! You can make this happen by sharing our link in any way you can.

Social Media posts on Facebook and Twitter work in a similar manner. The more attention each post receives, the more momentum it builds and the more attention it will receive. On Facebook, every ‘Like.’ ‘Comment’ and ‘Share’ helps a post appear in more newsfeeds and spreads the word. On Twitter, every time a post is retweeted, a whole new world of followers is exposed to the post. It truly is amazing.

The Importance of Pledging Right Now

You may be waiting to Pledge until the end of our Campaign for a number of reasons. Please don’t! As we explain above, building momentum in this Campaign is critical. Every Pledge today is worth at least twice as much as it will be tomorrow, because each Pledge helps others find our Project.

On January 24 we will host a Race to the Finish Bottle Share and Live Pledging Event to finish out our Kickstarter with a bang. Backers will be able to increase their Pledge or make new Pledges to gain entry to the party for beers and to make donations for delicious foods. You can RSVP on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/events/368756139888312/ and please, invite anyone you think would like to come. The best way to receive an invitation to events like these is to become a Backer. All Backers receive updates and invitations. To our right is a photo of just some of the beers we experienced during our last bottle share. If you love beer, trust us, you want to be at one our bottle share parties!

Most importantly, don’t wait until then to make your Pledge. If you are not sure what you can give, you can Pledge $1 now and then increase your Pledge to whatever Reward level you like. Yes, you can change your Pledge amount at any time! You can even change the Reward you have selected!

A Call to Action

This is our Call to Action. It is a call to help spread the word in any way you can. In our world information can spread extremely quickly. This is a chance to use that power to be part of something revolutionary and truly meaningful. We hope that you will join us.

We’ve created this summary infographic to help spread the word about the Brewery Incubator. Use it however you please. It is yours. If you’d like a high resolution version, please email us at info at breweryincubator dot com.

We’ve also included some other information on Kickstarter and crowdfunding at the end of this post that you may find helpful.

This past Friday, January 11, the awesome guys down at Brews Brothers in Galveston hosted a fundraiser for our Kickstarter by releasing two of their beers in our honor. All of the proceeds from the beer donations that evening will be Pledged to our Kickstarter by the Brews Brothers! We had a great time meeting everyone, sampling our beers and especially trying the Brews Brother releases. We got to try their Blonde Bitch Honey Rye Pale Ale, which was delicious, but the Millenium Falcon, an IPA made with Millennium and Falconer’s Flight hops and dry hopped with Galaxy Hops, completely stole the show. We were extremely honored that they hosted us for this special night and look forward to seeing them open the brewpub component of their awesome craft beer bar!

This just in! The Brews Brothers team not only raised $400 in donations during this Fundraiser, but generously donated funds from other beer releases to make a $1,000 Pledge on Kickstarter! They’re awesome. Go drink their beer: http://www.facebook.com/BrewsBrothersGalveston

Then, on Saturday, the ever amazing Warlocks Games & Beer threw an awesome retro gaming party fundraiser at our place. The event was officially called “Warlocks: games and beer presents, Board games and retro video games awesome hang out number one extravaganza super happy fun time.” This not surprising from the guys that have a Facebook URL of “EpicWinGamesAndBeer” (we love them).

Warlocks completely turned our entire Tap Room and Kitchen space into an incredible arcade. Retro game consuls like Sega and Atari were set up throughout the Tap Room and board game stations throughout the kitchens. Each video game station had special challenges that guests could take on to win prizes and games were switched out throughout the evening amongst classics like Goldeneye, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat, Super Smash Bros. and many more.. Beer flowed behind the bar as several League Brewers worked the taps. Featured Warlocks brews included Valhalla Braggot, Nutty Tax Collector Brown, Green Pepper Ale, Wassail-copter Holiday Ale and a new experimental ESB (win! I love ESBs and there aren’t nearly enough around).

For just $10 pre-sale and $15 at the door (or a Kickstarter Backing), guests enjoyed an evening filled with ample craft beer and endless gaming. While the video games held a strong crowd, a few of us, myself included, were enthralled with the most incredibly hilarious game of Cards Against Humanity I’ve ever played. We have some seriously witty fans!

You can view all of the photos from the event on Facebook, both our Album and the Warlocks’ Album, as well as photos from their past gaming event, a Halo 4 Release Party last November.

‘Warlocks: Games and Beer’ will be a place where craft beer and nerd culture collide. We will feature our own beers of various styles and influence while providing a competitive and casual gaming environment for the beer enthusiast and gamer alike. Our goal is to facilitate a certain fantasy by means of cultural submersion from the décor, language, and dress of our facility and wait staff. Waitresses and bar staff will become characters that customers will recognize from their favorite games and movies. The walls and furnishings will have interactive elements that only help to bring the customer into a realm they are already familiar with, the realm of nerd culture. Nothing will be quite like it.Our beer will help keep up its’ end of the fantasy by emulating aspects of the culture that we have immersed ourselves in. For example there may be sweet honey beer that we may name “Elvish Nectar” named the the elves often found in medieval fantasy games. The beer will not, however, be solely a gimmick to support the theme of the brewpub. It will be able to stand on its’ own as a quality brew made from thoughtful recipes derived uniquely for our establishment.

Happy New Year from the League of Extraordinary Brewers! We want to thank all who joined us for our first Craft Beer New Year!

We were lucky enough to ring in 2013 surrounded by our awesome local craft beer community, Kickstarter Backers and friends of the League at our Craft Beer New Year Celebration.

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen theme brought out incredible costumes from our guests who donned their finest steampunk corsets, tophats and canes for the event with many even renting costumes. Both dinner and party were completely sold out! View the photos in this Facebook Album.

Chef Troy Witherspoon of Craft Infusion joined us once again to collaborate on our modern spin on Queen Victoria’s Banquet with a beer twist.

As guests arrived the banquet table was plated on marble, gears and pieces of copper. We began with a cascade hop-dusted beet and apple slaw in beer vinegar. Then freshly baked Welsh Rarebits (i.e. beer cheese) in Pterodactale Cranberry and Warlock’s Nutty Tax-collector Brown Ale Apricot.

Also gracing the table were sides of Belgian Dubbel drunken fig and bacon brussel sprouts, duck fat Yorkshire Puddings, bacon haricot vert, Pterodactale drunken cranberry stuffing and Sweet Potato Brown Ale turnip puree with vanilla and nutmeg.

On to the main course! Ever decadent, we created the soon-to-be-famous Duck-Rabbit: duck stuffed inside a rabbit wrapped in crispy duck skin. This original creation was truly an epic win.

While slightly more conventional, the pork tenderloin was no less of a show stopper. Rubbed with dark beer mustard (made in house from Buff’s Gingerbread Stout), ancho chiles and Pterodactrale-marinated cranberries, the tenderloin was roasted until just barely done – still tender and moist.

As a grand finale, Happier Desserts live-churned High Fidelity’s Belgian Dubbel into a fig and mahon cheese ice cream to serve with beer bread pudding made with Real Ale Coffee Porter.

Each course was paired with a house brew. After dinner, party guests arrived and everyone enjoyed the taps along with special bottles shared throughout the night until our midnight toast with Adelbert’s Tripel (we had to pop corks!) and sparklers for everyone to light. We slipped in a bit of Champagne too, because some traditions will always live on.

Thank you once again to all who came out! We truly enjoyed putting on this event and look forward to hosting another steampunk ball next New Year’s Eve! One of the greatest things to come from this event is that many new people discovered us simply because they thought the steampunk ball was an awesome idea! They are now part of the family and we look forward to sharing beers with all of you again very soon.

If soon can’t come soon enough, join us this weekend for two special events. This Friday, January 11, Brews Brothers in Galveston, TX will be donating all of the proceeds from a special release of their beer to our Kickstarter Campaign. An aspiring brewpub just like us, these guys are waiting on their system and brewery licensing. Each beer will be given away for donation only, so come in and enjoy some great brews to support the cause!

Then, on Saturday night, join us at our downtown League Tap Room for a retro game night from Warlock’s Games and Beer. Brews and an awesome night of gaming for only a $10 suggested donation ($15 at the door). We hope to see you there!

Food Business Incubator Leader Extends Concept to Craft Beer in the World’s First Co-working Incubator Brewery

After several years of success helping launch food businesses at the forefront of the nation’s “kitchen incubator” movement, industry leader and innovator Lucrece Borrego is now launching the world’s first co-working brewery and incubator in historic downtown Houston, Texas. The incubator will foster the development of craft breweries by providing a pilot facility, tap room, support network and audience accessible to all aspiring brewers.

Borrego joined forces with brewer partner and engineer Jesus Acosta to extend the Kitchen Incubator (kitchenincubator.com) model to craft brewing. Having launched over a dozen companies in just two years and inspired as well as co-developed food incubators around the country, the model has become a leading development tool for food business incubators across the world. The partners have already built out the facility adjacent to the Kitchen Incubator and are currently seeking $25,000 to help build the ultimate shared-use brew system and tap room on Kickstarter (kickstarter.breweryincubator.com). The kitchens and brewery combine into a single storefront as a unique collaborative brewpub, a business badly longed for in Houston, a city missing a brewpub in spite of a burgeoning craft brewing scene.

Through involvement with local homebrew clubs and hosting popular bottleshares at their craft coffee shop, Cafe Luz, Borrego and Acosta have already reached deep in the Houston beer community to understand the market and its needs. The partners have spent the last six months working with applicant brew concepts to determine the five opening breweries that will be incubated during the first year as members of the League of Extraordinary Brewers. Each brewery has been carefully chosen to fill a specific niche so that the brewpub will always have a variety of beers on tap. Most importantly, the brewers have been invited in because of their strong support for the local beer community and ability to work together in a collaborative business. These breweries will be cultivated not only through the ability to professionally brew and sell their beer, but through business workshops, networking events, co-marketing, investor pitches and collaborations until they are fully ready to launch their own brewery. “We will ensure that when our brewers graduate,” says co-founder Lucrece Borrego, “that they will have all of the tools necessary to succeed – a built in customer base, established brand and industry connections, all the while having a great time and drinking some amazing beer.”

The founders also aspire to serve as a venue for experimental brews and new collaborations, promoting industry innovation and education. A small two barrel system and the flexibility of the brewpub allow for risky brewing that may not be viable on a large scale or for a brewery that must invest in labels, bottles and distribution contracts. The concept is an ideal fit for Texas, a state where outdated legislation on distribution, licensing and labeling has served to deter the growth of craft breweries. The Founders invite all craft brewers from around the world, including gypsy and contract brewers, to collaborate. In Houston, the Brewery Incubator will serve as a hub for the craft beer community, bridging together communities of home brewers and beer drinkers by hosting classes, tastings, community brew-ins and competitions.

Currently, the League of Extraordinary Brewers consists of six different brewing concepts, including the house Luz Brews from co-founders Borrego and Acosta. TBD Brewing specializes in classic styles, High Fidelity in Belgians, Down Easy in pales ales, Frostown in IPAs and Warlocks Games and Beer aspires to be the first ‘gaming brewpub,’ a geek culture mecca for video and board gamers and beer geeks. The Incubator has put on big events such as Craft Beer Quest and their Most Wonderful Time for a Beer Holiday parties and beer pairing dinners to educate the community about the concept and help each brewer gain valuable feedback on their beers. With tastings, bottleshares and a few creative surprises in the works for the remaining weeks of the Kickstarter campaign, the League of Extraordinary Brewers should be well established by their projected February 2013 opening date.

In the final stages of local and federal licensing, an arduous and lengthy process, and with a facility already built out, this revolutionary idea in craft brewing awaits only the Kickstarter funds to finish payment on their custom brew system currently being built in Portland, Oregon. This is, of course, where you come in. Always creative, the brewers have joined together to offer unique and compelling rewards for Kickstarter Backers in addition to beer tastings and party invitations throughout the campaign. Beer scene tours by motorcycle, private beer pairing dinners, custom brewing parties, a Community Supported Brewery monthly bottle membership and even the right to tattoo the founders’ bodies make up just some of the possible Rewards for Kickstarter supporters.

We held our first Backer Tasting Party and Farm to Pint Dinner, a collaboration with Greenling, a super awesome farm delivery service opening soon in Houston, on December 14. The event was a great success with a sold out Chef’s Table filled with 25 happy dinner guests and a full tap room filled with Backers, friends and members of the community interested in finding out about the Brewery Incubator and Greenling.

We wanted to share a special thank you to those who attended here along with a very special shout-out to the people who helped make it a success.

Thank you to Chefs Jay Stone and Troy Witherspoon (of Craft Infusion) for creating incredible dishes for our guests, thank you to Greenling for donating all of the produce from wonderful local farms and a very special thank you to the League Brewers, who created awesome beers to share with all and worked the taps as well as serving. You guys are the best!

Thank you to David Ham (an official League Backer!), Joanne Witt and Matt Morris for taking some great photos of the event too!

The evening began with a special beer cocktail by mixologist Eoghan Dillman, espuma of candied ujukitsu lemon and chambord in Frostown’s Cascadian Dark Ale.

Chef Jay Stone, formerly of Wicked Whisk and now independent (we hope to see much more of him in our kitchen!) began the first pairing, a beautifully rare goat loin on sunchoke puree with an IPA foam, peas, arugula and freeze dried kimchee powder, paired with the IPA used in the foam, Frostown Brewing’s Hopfioso IPA.

As an intermezzo between courses, guests enjoyed a Green Bell Pepper Ale by Warlock’s Games & Beer. This special beer was created for the evening’s Farm to Pint theme and was a surprising hit with everyone!

Next up came Chef Troy Witherspoon’s sunchoke gnocchi with brown ale braised goat shank and pickled radish paired with Luz Brews Christmas Pterodactale.

For dessert, co-founder Lucrece Borrego, who also happens to own a beer dessert business, Happier Desserts, created a beer spin on the traditional Christmas fruitcake with Tripel Upsidedown Citrus Cake served with Saison ice cream live churned with beer and liquid nitrogen. She paired the dish with the Wassail-copter holiday ale from Warlocks Games & Beer.

As a grand finale, we poured the intense Belgian Dubbel 007 by High Fidelity Brewing, a perfect apres dessert beer.
